Peterborough Cathedral awarded ‘Best Told Story’ Accolade

Friday 20 March

VisitEngland has awarded Peterborough Cathedral one of their 2019 Visitor Attraction Accolades in the ‘Best Told Story’ category.

VisitEngland periodically sends an assessor to report on their experience as a visitor to the Cathedral. They look at everything, from pre-visit information and first impressions, to the presentation of displays and interactions with staff and volunteers. Their last visit was in October 2019 and it was on the basis of the score given at then that the award was made.

The ‘Best Told Story’ category reflects the way in which the Cathedral tells its story, whether through interpretation panels and displays or through guided tours and other means.

The Very Revd Chris Dalliston, Dean of Peterborough, said:

“It is very encouraging to have received this accolade from VisitEngland. It’s a tribute not only to the hard work of our current staff and volunteers, but also to everyone involved in creating the interpretation displays in the Cathedral and the Visitor Centre in 2016, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Cathedral does indeed have an amazing story to tell. It has survived storm and tempest and attempts at destruction and continues to stand as a magnificent reminder of the glory of God.

We very much look forward to the time when we can reopen to tourists and see the Cathedral full of people once again.”

VisitEngland Director Andrew Stokes said:

“England’s attractions provide visitors with amazing experiences and these accolades recognise the outstanding customer service and quality on offer across the country.

“From Best Told Story interpretation to Hidden Gem and overall Gold, these accolades show that there is an attraction capable of capturing everyone’s imagination creating lasting memories and spreading the economic benefits from tourism.”
