Meet Tim Hitch, the Cathedral’s new independent Safeguarding Officer

Tim Hitch has been appointed by Chapter as the independent Safeguarding Officer for the Cathedral.

This is a voluntary role to which Tim brings a great deal of safeguarding expertise. He also brings independence because he is not a member of Chapter, nor involved in pastoral care for the Cathedral. To have this independent role is recommended good practice for all cathedrals.

Tim has spent 38 years working in education, as a teacher and then as the head of a large comprehensive school. He is a member of the congregation and an experienced Safeguarding trainer.

Sarah Brown, Canon Missioner, is the Chapter’s lead on Safeguarding, and the Cathedral also works closely with the Diocesan Safeguarding Team. The Cathedral’s Safeguarding Policy can be found here.
