Donation to Pakistan Flood Relief Effort

Tuesday 6 December

Vice Dean hands over cheque for £1200 to help the Pakistan Flood Relief Effort.

Every year the Cathedral's Community Forum decides how to distribute the funds acquired as part of the regular Cathedral congregational giving. This year we were delighted to donate £1200 to the Soup Kitchen, £1200 to Ukraine (via St Olga's Church in Peterborough), and £1200 to the flood relief effort in Pakistan. Vice Dean, Canon Tim Alban Jones had the pleasure of handing over a cheque to Abdul Muquaddas Choudhuri, Chairman of the Faizan e Madinah Mosque this week. He said:

'Everyone who has seen images of the flood damage in Pakistan has been moved by the scale of the disaster. At the Cathedral we felt we wanted to do something, and it seemed appropriate to offer a gesture of support through one of the local Mosques which has family connections to the affected area. It seemed a good way to emphasise our common humanity in the face of adversity and it also shows how well the faith communities work together in our great city.'

Many members of the Mosque have family in Pakistan and so there is a personal connection for them.
