T.rex Exhibition, Voluteering Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What is the process for becoming a volunteer for the T.rex: The Killer Question exhibition?

We ask all volunteers to complete an application form, with references. We will then invite you to come along to a recruitment day to find out more about the role and have an informal interview with a member of staff.

I am unable to come to a recruitment day, can I still volunteer?

Please get in touch with the Volunteer Coordinator, and they can arrange to meet with you when convenient.

Do I have to be interviewed?

We conduct an informal interview for all of our volunteer roles to make sure both you and us are happy about the role. It isn’t the same as a job interview so there is no need to worry. This can be done during one of our recruitment days, or we can arrange to meet you another time. Please let the Volunteer Coordinator know if there are any adjustments you require for this.

Can you help me with applying?

Please contact us if you need any help with applying, or would like the application form in a different format.

What jobs will I be doing?

We have three roles available for the exhibition, please have a read of the role descriptions. Some people may want to do different roles on different days, it is up to you!

Am I able to sit down for my volunteering?

The role descriptions talk about the roles where people will be able to sit when it is quieter. We will work with you though if we can support you with any reasonable adjustments.

Am I able to park at the Cathedral?

Parking is permitted in the Precincts only while actively on duty as a volunteer, however there is no guaranteed right to parking. You will be able to apply for a parking permit when you have your induction.

Will I have to dress smartly or wear a uniform?

Everything you need will be given to you. We ask that you ensure whatever you wear couldn’t be considered offensive by anyone. An ID badge will also be provided. Please remember that our 900 year old building can sometimes be a bit drafty though!

What training will I be given?

We will have some induction sessions in July which will teach you about the roles, help you find your way around the Cathedral, and you will be provided with the necessary safeguarding training.

Do I need to be a dinosaur expert?

All the training you need will be given to you.

Do I need to be a Christian?

Not at all. We welcome all at the Cathedral and are committed to being inclusive.

Do I need any specific skills to volunteer?

For most of our roles we just ask that you’re passionate about engaging with people and so there is no prior experience needed! Each role description will specify what type of person we are looking for.

How much time do I need to commit?

We ask for 1 half day shift a week, although understand that people may have holidays etc planned so we are happy to be flexible and work with you. You will be able to self-allocate your shifts.

How old do I need to be to volunteer?

The minimum age for volunteering is 16, and there is a separate application form for those between 16-18 years old.

Do I get any expenses paid?

Expenses are paid at the discretion of the Volunteer Coordinator. We do not wish for expenses incurred to be a barrier for those wishing to volunteer with us. Please make the volunteer coordinator aware if you wish to claim expenses for travel on public transport, which will be considered with discretion.

Have a disability; can I still volunteer?

Peterborough Cathedral is committed to being an inclusive employer. Please let us know of any reasonable adjustments so that we can support you.

Are you able to offer me a reference if I volunteer?

References can be provided by the Volunteer Coordinator when the exhibition has ended. Please see our volunteer videos that tell you more about the other benefits people have of volunteering.
