From rip-roaringly funny plays to swashbuckling drama and toe-tapping family musicals, this year’s Live in the Cloisters series at Peterborough Cathedral promises to be a joyous and fun-packed experience.
These outdoor family shows from professional theatre companies take place in the beautiful Cathedral Cloisters: a sheltered grassy lawn surrounded by the ancient stone walls of former monastic buildings.
The series begins on 14th July with a performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Quantum Theatre, which they describe as ‘enchanting, exuberant and rip-roaringly funny’. Next up is KD Theatre on 28th July, with a new adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, complete with songs and characters including the famous Mad Hatter, White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat.
DOT Productions will be bringing two shows to the Cloisters on 30th July. At 3pm, for a younger audience, they will present the rollercoaster adventures of Mowgli, Bagheera and Baloo in The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. Then at 7.30pm the five actors will perform that sparkling exploration of the English social class system, Pygmalion, by George Bernard Shaw.
The last show of the season is a family-friendly musical version of The Three Musketeers from Boxtree Productions. Expect plenty of music, comical characters and swashbuckling sword fights when the show begins at 6.30pm.
Audiences are invited to bring a deckchair or a blanket to sit on and, if they wish, a picnic or their favourite interval drinks. The performances will take place whatever the weather, so it’s advisable to check the forecast and dress accordingly,

Tickets range in price from around £10 for a child to £15 for adults. For some shows special prices are available for families or groups of 4.
