Make a jolly start to your Christmas shopping on 15th and 16th November 2019

Monday 4 November

With the indoor Craft and Gift Market in full swing from Friday evening, plus stalls and fairground rides on the green outside, there will be a festive atmosphere at the Cathedral on 15th and 16th November.

Dive into the Cathedral’s indoor Christmas Craft and Gift Market and you'll find a treasure trove of quirky and delightful gifts. Whether it’s bamboo socks, vegan soaps, unusual jewellery or handcrafted gin you’re after, there will be plenty to choose from. There’ll also be fun for the children, with mini fairground rides outside on the green in front of the Cathedral, and outdoor stalls selling mulled wine, German sausages, Christmas decorations and lots more.

The indoor Craft and Gift Market opens on Friday evening from 6.30pm and continues on Saturday 16th November from 9.30am until 4.30pm. The outdoor stalls and rides open from 12.00 noon.

In the Cathedral, ‘Sundays’ carvery will be offering Christmas-themed refreshments. Also, Tower Top Climbs to see the view from the central tower will run on the hour from 10.00am until 3.00pm. Tickets are £5 per person or £16 for a group of four. Advanced booking is recommended as numbers on each climb are limited (visit www.ticketisland.co.uk/PeterboroughCathedral and select 16th November).

If you are looking for musical entertainment on Friday 15th November, the fun starts at around 4.00pm when BBC Radio Cambridgeshire will be hosting the city’s Christmas Lights Switch-On, on Cathedral Square. There will be a line-up of local musicians – starting with the Cathedral Choir who are due on stage at 4.00pm. Father Christmas has taken time out of his busy schedule to perform the big switch-on itself at 7.00pm, or just before.

Opening hours for the Cathedral’s indoor Craft and Gift Market are Friday 15th November from 6.30pm until 9.00pm, and Saturday 16th November from 9.30am until 4.30pm. There is no entry charge, donations are invited. For more details see the Cathedral Christmas Market web page.

The outdoor stalls and rides on the Cathedral green will be joined by more stalls in the city centre during November as part of ‘Peterborough Christmas Market’. They will remain open through December. The stalls on the green at the Cathedral will become part of the backdrop to the Living Nativity Service on Monday 23rd December, at 10.30am and 2.00pm, when animals from Sacrewell Farm will join members of the community in a costumed re-enactment of the Nativity story, ending in the Cathedral Cloisters.
