Peterborough Cathedral is preparing to host a traditional Burns’ Night Supper on Saturday 22nd January 2022, to take place in the transepts and under the central tower of the Cathedral.
The event will be complete with bagpipes, a three-course supper with haggis and whisky toasts, and a ceilidh with the caller and musicians from Cambridgeshire folk band Frog on a Bike.
The Scottish flag already hangs inside the Cathedral, both as a symbol of one of its patron saints, St Andrew, and also to mark the place where Mary, Queen of Scots was buried in 1587, before her removal to Westminster Abbey in 1612.
Maria Elsey, Head of Operations at Peterborough Cathedral and herself a loyal Scot, said:
“I can't think of a better place to hold a Burns’ Night Supper! The Cathedral is such a beautiful and historic setting and the evening will have all the traditional elements that we Scots expect on this special night. I hope that many people will come and enjoy the event, regardless of whether or not they have Scottish connections.”
Guests are encouraged to wear something tartan as part of their outfit, or a kilt if they have one. Flat shoes are recommended for those who want to take part in the ceilidh.
The Supper is sponsored by Ingleton Wood and Eddisons. It begins at 7.00pm and tickets are £50 per person inclusive of the dinner, whisky toasts and the ceilidh. There will also be a pay bar. Any proceeds from the event will be used to support the work of Peterborough Cathedral. Should it be necessary to cancel the event due to a change in Covid regulations, ticket holders will be refunded the price of their tickets.
