Online History Talk - Women in Medieval Religion

Thursday 19 May 2022 19:30 - 20:30

The Cathedral's Canon Precentor Dr Rowan Williams casts a look back at the women whose religious witness has echoed across the years.

Canon Rowan will explore the importance of women in the medieval Church. Many official Church functions were not open to them, and the contribution they made is often overlooked and misunderstood.  The life and writings of some significant mediaeval women offer evidence for a different understanding.

Her talk will refer to Julian of Norwich, Clare of Assisi and Hildegard of Bingen who lived very different kinds of lives, but others will get a mention too.
