Worship - Welcome

For over 1300 years, the primary purpose of Peterborough Cathedral has been the worship of Almighty God.  As part of the Church of England within the worldwide Anglican Communion, we continue to offer daily worship and sacred space through which an encounter with the living God is possible in many different ways.

As in most English Cathedrals, a
long standing choral tradition underpins the daily round of prayer and worship, with Evensong sung each day (during term and often at other times).  Choral Eucharist and Sung Matins are also offered on Sundays. In addition we offer a variety of other Regular Services such as Morning Prayer and Eucharist every day, Holy Communion at
11 am every Wednesday, Wednesday at One and more reflective forms of worship such as Taize.

There are also a number of Special Services throughout the year, especially at Christmas, Easter, Petertide and each January when we hold the Katharine of Aragon memorial service, at which we celebrate the life of the former Queen who is now buried in Peterborough Cathedral.

The Cathedral’s teaching programme is also supported by prayer and worship, as are The Peterborough Theological Society, the Film Group and house groups.  The online Prayer and Sermon Archive is another way of engaging with the spiritual life of the community.

In this section you will find a wealth of information about ways to share in worship at Peterborough Cathedral, as well as a comprehensive programme of additional activities which will allow people with either a small or significant amount of knowledge of the Christian faith to discover more by engaging in Christian teaching, or by joining a study group.
