Peterborough Cathedral is a national icon – a truly undiscovered gem.
The Cathedral’s primary function, as it has been for over 1300 years, is to provide a sacred space for the worship of God but as well as being a living and working centre for Christianity – it has become in recent years the very heart of Peterborough, the home of its people and a very special place for all to enjoy.
It was recently voted one of the top 10 UK landmark’s by Fujifilm users in a 2007 poll, ahead of even London’s Tower Bridge. The Cathedral is also an Enjoy England Quality Assured Visitor Attraction and is visited by approximately 60-70,000 people per year.
The once famous set for the BBC hit series The Barchester Chronicles, the Cathedral was also picked by the BBC for live Christmas broadcasts in 2008.

The Cathedral is open for visiting 364 days a year (closed on Boxing Day) at the following times:
Mon-Fri 9.00-5.15pm
Saturday 9.00-3.00pm
Sunday Noon-3.15pm
There may be some restricted access due to services and events so please check for alterations prior to your visit.
Visitors are welcome to simply make their own arrangements to attend and look around, or arrange a guided Cathedral tour to discover the key points of interest at this fascinating Cathedral Church.

Visitors either individually, in groups, as part of a school trip and also coach tours are welcome at any time of the day at any time of the year, although services & special events often occur so please check our Events Calendar and Service Details ahead of your visit if you would rather come on a quieter day.
There is no fixed charge for entry but we invite all visitors to make an appropriate donation and anyone wishing to film or take photographs is asked to please purchase a licence for just £2. A small charge applies for adhoc and guided tours. All additional donations to the continuing operation of our Cathedral are gratefully received.
