General Visiting

The Cathedral is open 364 days a year (closed on Boxing Day). Whilst the Cathedral and its Precincts are open from early morning to early evening every day of the week for Morning Prayer and Evensong, general visiting hours are as follows:
 
Mon-Fri 9.00-5.15pm
Saturday 9.00-3.00pm
Sunday Noon-3.15pm
 
There may be some restricted access due to services and events so please check for alterations prior to your visit. Disabled access is available to most areas and parking can be arranged in special circumstances. There is no charge for admission but donations are politely requested.

Opening Times

Access to the Cathedral and grounds is available between the following times, however there may well be services or other events taking place outside of the normal visiting hours mentioned above and visitor facilities may be restricted.

Monday to Friday: 7.30am - 6.30pm
Saturday & Sunday: 7.30am - 5.00pm

The Cathedral is always open from Morning Prayer at around 7.30am until after Evensong seven days a week. Visitors are welcome to join us for these services but please note that welcomers, tours, coffee shop and shop staff may not be available at morning prayer or Evensong at the very beginning and end of each day. Visitor are most welcome however, to stay and join us for either of these daily services however, so please click here to find out more.

Please note: all gates and exits from the Cathedral, except the pedestrian entrance at Wheel Yard, are closed before 7am and after 6.30pm so access to Cathedral Square is closed outside of those times. There is also now a parking barrier in place at the vehicle entrance to the Cathedral as parking is restricted to those with authorised access (disabled provision can be arranged by calling 01733 343342). By Road:

NB. On some systems the Cathedral’s location may show as an unnamed road leading to Dean’s Court. On others ‘Wheel Yard’ may be recognised. Following either should lead you to the vehicle entrance to the Cathedral grounds. Although please note parking in the Precincts is limited to disabled blue badge holders so as you approach the Cathedral please follow signs for public car parks.

By Rail:
To find us by rail travel to Peterborough Station (London, Cambridge and Leicester 55 mins, York: 1hr 15 mins) and walk through the city centre (approx 10 mins). View map

Parking

There is generally no public parking available in the Precincts, although we do have two disabled parking bays, so it may be possible for disabled badge holders to park in the grounds when visiting the Cathedral. Please arrange via the Chapter Office by calling 01733 343342 and if you encounter any problem please find a security guard, steward or verger or come to the Cathedral Office next to the Deanery. There is now a barrier at the vehicle entrance to the Cathedral for the safety of those living and working in the Precincts so vehicle access will only be granted to those who are authorised to be on site. Access & Disability Provision:
 
Parking provision can be arranged within the Cathedral Grounds for the disabled or in special circumstances. There are two disabled bays allocated already and if further provision is required then please either call the Cathedral Office on 01733 355300 or see one of the Security Guards, Vergers or Stewards around the Cathedral for further assistance. 

There is an access ramp for wheelchair users at the West Door and level access via the South Transept Door. Once inside, all areas are accessible to wheelchair users except the tower and upper levels tour.  The Education Centre has level access and the Becket Chapel also allows wheelchair access to a toilet facility facilities for the disabled.

A touch/hearing centre and specially formulated written material are available for the blind and partially sighted and a sensory tour can be organised with prior arrangement.  A hearing loop is provided for use during services.  Please  contact the Cathedral Office on 01733 355300 with any further queries.
