The Very Reverend Charles Taylor
The Very Reverend Charles Taylor
Charles joined Peterborough Cathedral in 2007, having moved from Lichfield Cathedral where he was Precentor for 12 years. As Dean of Peterborough, he has overriding responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Cathedral, the Cathedral in the community, Cathedral strategy, the Clergy, and the Cathedral as both a place of worship and visitor attraction.
Background info
- Our Dean was once a chorister at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London where he sang at the State Funeral of Sir Winston Churchill and the memorial service for President John F Kennedy.
- He was ordained at Lichfield Cathedral in 1976, returning again in 1995 where he was to remain as Residentry Canon and Precentor of the Cathedral before coming to Peterborough in 2007.
- In 1979, Charles was appointed Chaplain of Westminster Abbey, where he met and married his wife, Catherine. They now have two children, Rachel and Benedict, both pursuing careers in medicine.
- His wide experience in different parts of Britain has fuelled his concern, in his words, “to live out the Kingdom of God here and now in the public community, that the hungry may receive their daily bread, the sinner and the broken find forgiveness and reconciliation. A cathedral in particular has a special opportunity to be a window of that vision of humanity."
