As well as functioning primarily as place of worship, Peterborough Cathedral is an attraction in its own right. Owing to it’s fascinating past and remnants of a long and colourful history, it is often seen as a key attraction those with an interest in history and heritage.

Particularly, the Cathedral contains the tombs of two former Queens – Katharine of Aragon and Mary Queen of Scots. Please click here for more information on either of these two intriguing Queens and various other people of the past.

As such we regularly hold events that allow our visiting public to discover some of our history. These range from our daily ad hoc tours to full blown exhibitions focusing on a particular topic such as the British Library Henry VIII exhibition that will be on site from September 5th to 26th.

Our Cathedral Open Day also provides a wonderful opportunity to discover more of the history of this great church, especially as this year’s open day featured a ‘Dead Interesting Cathedral Tour’ looking at all the ancient tombs, memorials and references to people of the past that line the Cathedral walls and floor.
