As well as the wonder and beauty the Cathedral itself has to offer, Peterborough Cathedral is blessed in its abundance of beautiful open spaces and peaceful surroundings.
With a large green leading off from the Cathedral West Front, the Cathedral Precincts are often swarming with lunchtime visitors picnicking in the glorious sunshine or enjoying some well deserved peace and quiet around the grounds.
As well as the lawned area at the front, there are a number of truly beautiful spots around the rest of the Precincts including the ancient Cloisters on the south side of the Cathedral.
Visitors are more than welcome to use all such spaces for quiet reflection, picnicking or peaceful strolls with family and friends, taking in a calming and tranquil atmosphere which one would not usually associate with a city centre.
Perhaps one of the most attractive open spaces around the site is the Deanery Garden. This is not often open to the public all year. However, there are a limited number of dates across the summer when visitors can benefit from a wonderfully interesting Garden Open Day as well as a tour around the grounds – and this really is something not to be missed.
We now have a new Cathedral Coffee Shop where visitors can purchase sandwiches, drinks and snacks. You are most welcome to take these out onto the West Front lawns to enjoy your lunch in the grounds. Please use the litter bins for your rubbish before you leave.
