Members of The Company of St Peter receive an invitation to the Annual Dinner held in the Cathedral each October, and a special invitation to the Advent Procession service in November, preceded by a drinks reception in the Deanery hosted by the Dean and his wife.
Members are also invited to a varied programme of visits and events during the year at reasonable cost, and wherever possible we arrange for an exclusive talk or access to a restricted area not normally available to the public.
The programme for 2012 included a guided tour of Bletchley Park, with its Enigma machines, Woburn Abbey house and gardens, the Orchard Tea Garden at Grantchester, linked to the war poet Rupert Brooke, Chilford Hall, for a tour of the vineyards followed by some wine-tasting, and an evening at the Rutland Open Air Theatre, for a meal and a performance of ‘Twelfth Night.’
Other recent visits have included the RAF Museum at Hendon, Sandringham House, where we were given exclusive access to the private garden, and the ‘Treasures of Heaven’ exhibition at the British Museum, where we were given a special talk by the curator. Similarly, 2013 will include a visit to the ‘Pompeii and Herculaneum – Life and Death in the Roman Empire’ exhibition, also at the British Museum, where we will again be given a special talk by its curator.
Travel is normally by coach from the Cathedral or members can make their own way there, at reduced cost, and meet up with us. Advance details of the year’s programme are sent to all members once this has been finalised, and to new members on joining. Shiane Clare, our Trust Administrator, is always pleased to answer any queries or to discuss any special requirements; contact her on 01733 355315 or e-mail her at Shiane.clare@peterborough-cathedral.org.uk.
