Flashback to 2018 as Photography Competition Winners Announced

Tuesday 29 January

Three pictures that capture the essence of Peterborough Cathedral during its 900th anniversary year have been selected by the public as winners of the ‘Peterborough Cathedral: A Moment in Time’ photography competition

They include a timeless view of the interior architecture, Tim Peake’s spacesuit echoing the form of a memorial to a former bishop, and silhouetted figures looking at the Museum of the Moon by Luke Jerram.

The competition, sponsored by Kall Kwik Peterborough, was open to amateur photographers and was part of the celebration of the Cathedral’s 900th anniversary in 2018. Keen snappers were invited to capture on camera something of the special nature of the Cathedral in this momentous year. Of the 152 photographs entered, 23 were shortlisted by a panel of judges before being exhibited in the Cathedral’s Visitor Centre. Visitors to the exhibition were then invited to vote for their favourite, with prizes going to those receiving the most votes.

Penelope Aldred won the first prize with her picture, The Sunbeam Aisle (shown right).  Graham Williams won the second prize for his picture 26th Bishop meets Astronaut (below left), and the third prize went to Men on the Moon by Gary Goodacre (below right).

Canon Ian Black, who represented the Cathedral on the judging panel said: “We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the competition. I hope it gave people a reason to look more closely at this amazing place - there were certainly some wonderful entries and there was plenty of discussion amongst the judging panel before we reached our shortlist. I am delighted to see  the results – these are worthy winners.”

The other judges were the artist Tony Nero, Peterborough Telegraph photographer David Lowndes, photographer and photography tutor Adrian Stone, and Lynette Loasby of Kall Kwik.

The exhibition remains open until Monday 4th February and the Visitor Centre is usually open from 10.00am until 4.00pm, Monday to Saturday and 12 noon until 400pm on Sunday.
