The Coronation Anthems, composed by George Frideric Handel for George II's coronation in 1727, are the centrepiece of a concert at Peterborough Cathedral on Saturday 1st April at 7.30pm.
The Baroque Masterworks concert will be performed by Peterborough Cathedral Choir, Youth Choir and Festival Chorus, with period instrument ensemble Instruments of Time and Truth.
Amongst the four Anthems is the famous Zadok the Priest, described by Classic FM’s afternoon presenter Anne-Marie Minhall as “a spine-tingling, choral belter”. The Coronation Anthems have been sung at the coronation of every British monarch since they were written.
The concert will also include the Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, another joyful and uplifting piece of baroque music.
Tickets for the concert are £20, £15 (U18s half price). These are available online via Peterborough Cathedral's page at Oundle Box Office, or from Oundle Box Office on 01832 274734, or Peterborough Information Centre on 01733 452336, or Stamford Arts Centre on 01780 763203.
