Recordings
The Cathedral Choir has made a number of recordings over the years: there are extant tracks dating back to the 1930s, providing a record of the Choir some 75 years ago. The Choir developed its recording profile under the directorship of Stanley Vann, and details of the Choir’s recordings during these years can be seen at www.stanleyvannmusic.org.uk
Some of the Choir’s recordings directed by Stanley Vann, Christopher Gower and Andrew Reid can be purchased from the mobile gift & souvenir stand located in the Cathedral. Katherine’s Cradle, released in October 2008, includes works by composers associated with the royal chapels of Castile and Aragon who may possibly have taught the young Katherine or whose music she may have heard prior to her journey to England. Love bade me welcome, sung by the boys, girls and men of the Cathedral Choir, features a variety of music across five hundred years of the choral tradition.
In February 2010 the Cathedral Choir issued a new disc, Harken to the whispering angels, featuring music by Stanley Vann, who celebrated his 100th birthday on 15 February. The disc includes 16 tracks of Peterborough Cathedral Choir under Stanley Vann’s direction singing his music from recordings made in 1965, 1969, 1974 and 1977. The final 9 tracks were recorded in January 2010, with the current Cathedral Choir performing music written by Stanley in his retirement. Broadcasts
The Choir has undertaken a number of broadcasts in recent years, including the BBC coverage of the Christmas Eucharists from Peterborough in 2008. In 1982 the BBC filmed the drama The Barchester Chronicles by Anthony Trollope from Peterborough, with the Cathedral Choir performing some of the music. A BBC Radio 3 broadcast of Choral Evensong took place on 24 February 2010, at which much of the music chosen was by or associated with Stanley Vann, Master of Music 1953-1977, whose 100th birthday fell that month.
