As a Christian community, we seek to provide pastoral care for all those who request it. In particular we offer the following:
• Daily prayer at Morning Prayer for those whose names have been placed on the prayer needs list.
• Home Communion for those members of the cathedral community who are too sick to attend public worship
• Home or hospital visits to those who are seriously ill
The clergy are assisted in this ministry by Jenny Opperman and Joanne Dalrymple-Smith, who are both Lay Pastoral Ministers licensed by the Bishop, and by Ken Newitt, a Reader also holding the Bishop’s licence.
Additionally the clergy are available to hear confessions or to discuss matters of pastoral concern by appointment.
In certain circumstances the clergy will also offer support for baptism, weddings and funerals, although the Church’s ministry to people at these important moments is primarily offered through the local parish church, and the cathedral is not normally a venue.
Exceptions are made for regular worshippers at the cathedral who are also on the Cathedral Roll, or who have some other genuine pastoral connection with the cathedral, or who live within the Cathedral Precincts.
If you would like more information on any of the above please contact Canon Jonathan Baker, jonathan.baker@peterborough-cathedral.org.uk or 01733 355310.
