If you have lost a loved one you may wish to leave a lasting public tribute to that someone for years to come in this beautiful sacred space.
Peterborough Cathedral offers a variety of options for dedicating memorial gestures including Benefactor Days, Custodian of a Statue scheme, Pinnacle Pioneers and brass memorial plaques installed on Cathedral chairs to commemorate those who have died.
To find out more about each of these things please see below:
Memorial Plaques
Memorials plaques are polished brass plates mounted in a highly visible position on the wooden pew chairs in the Cathedral Nave and North Transept. They can be provided in return for a minimum donation of £175 towards the maintenance of the Cathedral, gift aided where possible. Anyone interested is asked to please contact the Cathedral Office on 01733 355315.
Dedicate a Day
In addition to Dedicating a Statue and Dedicating a Pinnacle you can also Dedicate a Day to a loved one who has passed away by becoming a Benefactor of Peterborough Cathedral. In return for a gift of £5,000 to one of our Cathedral Endowment Funds - loved ones of your choice would be entitled to a special day where they will be remembered in Cathedral worship on your chosen day in perpetuity. They will have a plaque with their details displayed on that day in the choir stalls and will be remembered by name in the service and in the thoughts of the congregation. This is an excellent way of commemorating an anniversary of a loved one and already over 70 days have been taken up by Benefactors, but there is space for many more. For more information on Benefactor Days please click here.
Dedicate a Statue
In 2007, Peterborough launched an initiative called Custodian of a Statue scheme, which aimed to raise money for works required to restore the Cathedral’s magnificent West Front. When the initiative was first launched the Cathedral was delighted to see some of the Cathedral’s 33 statues being ‘adopted’ for as much as £10,000. As we near the end of our restoration project there are still 3 statues available – all of which could make an excellent memorial to a loved one this lasting tribute at one of the top 10 Landmarks in the UK and will be preserved and maintained for years to come. For more information about the Custodian of a Statue scheme please click here. The remaining statues are available for between £2500 and £3500 each.
Dedicate a Pinnacle
The Cathedral has recently launched a new initiative to raise the extra funding required to complete the West Front Project. Along with Dedicating a Statue this is another special and unique way to pay a tribute to a loved one which will be preserved and maintained for years to come. There are numerous pinnacles of varying sizes and in return for a donation you will be offered the opportunity to scale the scaffolding on the outside of the tower and mark your tribute by dedicating a pinnacle of your choice. If you would like to find out more about the Pinnacle Pionner appeal then please click here or to find out more about the West Front Project please click here.
