As Canon Missioner, Jonathan is responsible for the pastoral care of the congregation and wider Cathedral community, and for the outward mission of the Cathedral in partnership with organisations, churches and faiths. Jonathan’s ministerial interests include preaching, spirituality and practical ministry, a concern for the initiation of children and young people into the Christian faith, and the relationship between the gospel and contemporary culture.

Background info

  • Jonathan was born in 1961 and grew up in Warwickshire, as the youngest of four children.
  • Previously trained as a Solicitor at the College of Law in Guildford, he worked for a firm of Solicitors in central London, specialising in Probate, Trusts and Tax from 1984-1989, and shortly afterwards he decided to train for ordination at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford. He took his Theology finals the week after he became a father for the first time!
  • Following ordination, Jonathan served a curacy with the Sanderstead Team Ministry in Southwark diocese before heading north to be the incumbent of Scalby, Hackness, Harwood Dale and St.Luke’s, Scarborough in the diocese of York where he was also a Vocations Advisor. From there he came to Peterborough in September 2004. Jonathan is married to Sue and they have four children.
