Guild of the Epiphany

What is the Guild of the Epiphany?

The Guild of the Epiphany is a Cathedral bible study group. It has an interesting history. Founded over a hundred years ago, it was part of a countrywide network set up principally for women teachers, but now it is open to all.  Members have attempted to discover if any other branches are still active, but it appears that we in Peterborough are the only surviving group. In recent years, leaders have included Dean Randolph Wise, Canon Jack Higham and Canon Bill Croft. Today we are an open and mutually supportive (and friendly) group and welcome new members.

What is the Guild for?

The Guild is designed to be a stimulating and challenging forum, encouraging members to think more deeply about the scriptures and thus to develop their own faith.

What Is a typical meeting like?

We have retained the Guild's original three-part format of worship, fellowship and study. The group usually meets at 7.30 pm when there is short act of worship, using a liturgy not unlike compline. This is followed by light refreshments. We then study and discuss a passage from the Bible (usually a single book is studied over a number of months). Everyone is able to contribute, though nobody is forced to say anything. The meeting usually finishes about 9.30 p.m.

How often does the group meet and where?

The Guild meets once a month throughout the year, excepting August. We meet in different group members' houses.

How do I find out more?
