Read more … Cathedral Closed to Visitors – Tuesday 8th May from 12.30pm to 2.00pm
As well as the more traditional groups you might expect to find at a Cathedral, we also run a couple of more diverse and informal options with our film and reading groups. These two cathedral groups are relatively new and are more casual than the bible study groups. They take a lively but challenging look at the interface between Christianity, its key values and the modern world.
Peterborough Cathedral runs a popular and interesting film society which meets at the Showcase Cinema in Peterborough on the first Friday of each month where a film is then chosen by consensus.
With recent trips including Batman, The Da Vinci Code, 27 Dresses and other mainstream blockbusters, the idea is that attendees watch the film and then retreat to a pub nearby to discuss its religious reflections and ideologies about the world, religion, values and beliefs over some refreshments.
Attendees make their own way to the Showcase Cinema and pay for themselves. Anyone is welcome to attend and can contact Canon Jonathan Baker for further information on 01733 355310 or email jonathan.baker@peterborough-cathedral.org.uk.
A new Cathedral reading group was launched at the Cathedral back in February 2009, dubbed ‘Apologetica’.
The aim of the group is to meet to discuss the inspirational work of the inspirational author C.S.Lewis and his reflections on religion as a Christian apologist. Famed for his allegorical tale ‘The Chronicles of Narnia,’ the aim of the group is to encourage enquiring minds to look past the adventure and uncover the many reflections on Christian theology and Greek and Roman mythology, as well as traditional British and Irish fairy tales.
The group meets on average around 2 or 3 times a year. Details of the next scheduled meeting can always be found either on this page, under Related Events or in the Weekly Service Sheets.
Anyone with any queries is asked to contact Canon Missioner Jonathan Baker on 01733 355310 or email jonathan.baker@peterborough-cathedral.org.uk.
