Bruce is the Canon Precentor, responsible for all matters relating to the worship and music of the Cathedral. He is responsible for leading services, spreading word of the Christian faith, and overseeing the development of Cathedral music through our Cathedral Choir.

Background:

  • Before moving to Peterborough in 2004, Bruce Ruddock served as a Residentiary Canon at Worcester Cathedral, where he was Canon Precentor and Canon Pastor. Prior to that, he was Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome and the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Representative to the Holy See. Bruce is a Chaplain to the Queen.
  • Born and bred in Sussex, he trained for the ordained ministry at Chichester Theological College, having previously studied for three years at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and spending another three years working for a music publisher.
  • He was ordained in 1983 and, after serving a curacy on the Sussex coast, he became priest-in-charge of St Wilfrid’s Church in the parish of St Mary, Portsea. This was followed by seven years as vicar of St Michael’s Barnes in the Diocese of Southwark.
