Benefactor days

With costs in excess of £1.3 million each year, the Cathedral is continually seeking support from individuals to help maintain this treasured icon and its mission and ministry for generations to come.

As the Cathedral operates with charitable status and receives no direct funding from the state, we have to secure the majority of the £3,500 per day required to keep the Cathedral running through various fundraising initiatives.

In addition to the two specific schemes designed to raise money for the West Front ProjectThe Custodian of a Statue scheme and Pinnacle Pioneers - we also offer the opportunity for generous individuals to become Benefactors of Peterborough Cathedral for a gift of £5,000 towards a specific area of their choice.

The main areas, aside from day to day operation, that require significant funding are the fabric, ministry and music of the Cathedral – all of which are costly yet vital areas of the Cathedral’s work.

All Benefactor gifts are invested to provide a permanent endowment income to support one of these three chosen areas. This gives the donor the opportunity to decide where they wish their gift to go.

In return for this gift, it is possible to select a Benefactor Day where you, a loved one or any person that you chose will be remembered in Cathedral worship on your chosen day in perpetuity. On this day a plaque with the details of the person to be remembered is placed in front of the choir stalls and that person is remembered in the service.

This is an excellent way of commemorating an anniversary of a loved one or a special occasion whilst at the same time helping to support the vital work of the Cathedral and its continuing operation. Further details of other memorial or tribute gestures can be found by clicking here.

In the last 13 years, since the initiative was introduced, we have already more than 70 days taken up by generous individuals who are now listed as Cathedral Benefactors.

There are three main funding areas to which you can donate, details of which can be found by clicking on the links below:

One off donations can also be made to these funds by contacting the Trust team. If you would like to find out more about Benefactor Days please call the Trust Office on 01733 355315 or email trust@peterborough-cathedral.org.uk.
